Functionality and practicality of online psychological self-help programs is questionable. Traditional means of dealing with mental issues involve communicating with a therapist, a human no less, thus making it unlikely that people would be interested in programs such as Master Kit. In spite of that, the program boasts of more than 20,000 users, necessitating the study done into the changes it effects. Making use of different tests and proceeding from the hypothesis that application of the Master Kit technique in the long term has an effect on the users’ psychological state, the research made a comparison between long term users and short term; and arrived at a number of conclusions.
Over the course of using the program, the new users initially exhibited a high level of distress and hysterical type response (regression, overcompensation, general tension, excitability and exaltation) However, after a few more months, their level of anxiety control and tension was increased which essentially suppressed the hysterical responses. Moreover, the active users recorded reduced cases of depression after using the technique for a while. This was because they began changing their intuitive cognitive style to intuitive cognition as a basis of making decisions. Moreover, active users registered reduced cases of succumbing to frustration and their behavior was in line with the circumstances of their problem.
The nature of changes that take place as the individuals use the technique is more personal that had been anticipated. The users experience changes on a personal level, depending on their willingness to apply themselves to Master Kit. While different starting times, that is, the month on which they start; are an important factor in determining the effectiveness of the Kit, in that the results recorded for new comers are similar at the beginning, such similarity changes over the course of three months. Thus, increased resistance to stress and frustration may be evidenced differently in different users. The reasoning given is that different users, as they progressed, formulate their individual ways of using the simulator. Further, the study showed that people with more calm and rational personalities use the simulator less often than those that are sensitive and emotional.
